Bright future predicted for Mexican tourism
14 August 2008
The tourism industry in Mexico can look forward to a bright future, according to an expert on foreign investment.
Chris Chadd, head of research at Property Frontiers, said that the country's established resorts of Cancun and Acapulco are 'testament to [its] potential'.
Cancun is located on the Yucatan peninsula in eastern Mexico, while Acapulco is situated on the country's western Pacific coastline.
Mr Chadd claimed that Mexican tourism has gone through a period of underachievement but now looks set to enjoy a fruitful era of increasing visitation and investment.
'Mexico's tourism sector has largely been underperforming and many investors feel that there is huge potential for further growth in the industry,' he said.
'Tourist arrivals in Mexico numbered 22m last year, placing it firmly within the top ten tourist destinations (by arrivals).'
The investment expert pointed out that one of the most important source markets for Mexico is China, with the government reportedly hoping to attract 5m Chinese visitors annually by 2020.
