Montreal leads world cities on international Monopoly board
22 August 2008

The Canadian city of Montreal has topped the list of the dozens of cities that will appear on the board of Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition.

Montreal will be the most expensive city in which players will be able to buy a property, followed by the Latvian capital of Riga and the tourist hotspot of Cape Town in South Africa.

Hasbro, the maker of Monopoly, invited people to vote on the cities they felt should feature on the board, receiving some 5.6m votes.

Paris, Beijing, London and New York all featured in the top ten, with Sydney, Rome, Istanbul and Barcelona also set to appear on the new Monopoly board.

Helen Martin of Hasbro said in a statement: 'We hope that fans of the world's most popular board game will enjoy buying, selling and trading real estate from around the globe in the new Monopoly game that they created with their votes.

'We are thrilled that the first-ever global game board includes an interesting mix of cities that showcases the dynamic cultures, sights and history of the planet.'

The new game will be available in more than 50 countries from 26 August.
