Air-con bus shelters opened in Dubai
27 August 2008

Dubai's bus network has been turned into a more attractive way of travelling around the city following the installation of 350 air-conditioned bus shelters.

Some 250 mass transit locations around Dubai now provide the cooled shelters, including Jumeirah, Deira, Al Wasl and Qusais.

The initiative is the result of cooperation between Right Angle Media, the company behind the world's first air-conditioned bus shelters, and government organisations including the road and transport authority.

Jim Davies, Right Angle Media's director of operations, said: 'Our commitment to providing world-class public transport amenities for commuters and tourists alike remains on top of our agenda.

'We aim to make travelling in Dubai more convenient, safe and comfortable.'

Located in the United Arab Emirates on the eastern side of the Arabian peninsula, Dubai is essentially a desert city and gets extremely hot at certain times of the year.

While hotels and most indoor areas are air conditioned, people looking to explore the city should visit between the end of September and the beginning of May to avoid uncomfortably high temperatures.
