Lufthansa launches mobile boarding at Heathrow
09 October 2008
German airline Lufthansa has announced that it is set to launch online check-in and boarding via mobile phone to almost 400 European destinations from London Heathrow.
The carrier said that it has selected the UK as a 'key launch market' outside Germany for implementing its mobile boarding pass system.
Effective from 13 October, the scheme will allow Lufthansa passengers flying from Heathrow to use mobile boarding passes on all non-stop flights to Germany as well as most onward destinations in Europe.
The UK launch, which will incorporate a number of other departure points in the coming months, follows the successful introduction of mobile boarding on Lufthansa's services from Germany last summer, which saw the facility used on about 1,000 daily flights.
Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa's general manager in the UK and Ireland, said: 'Selecting London Heathrow as one of the key launch markets outside Germany for the mobile boarding pass clearly demonstrates just how much we value our UK customers.
'I am sure this new service will prove to be invaluable, particularly to business travellers, making their journeys simpler, more flexible and more convenient.'
All passengers need to check in online or via Lufthansa's mobile portal is their booking code and their name.
