Follow movie stars' footsteps in Australia
18 November 2008

Holidaymakers have been urged to pay a visit to Australia next year to see the types of locations featured in a forthcoming movie starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

Baz Luhrmann's film Australia, which premieres in Sydney today (18 November) and will open in the UK on Boxing Day, stars Kidman as an English aristocrat who travels to Australia and meets a local man, played by Jackman.

The pair embark on a journey across the outback but cannot escape the impact of World War II as Darwin is bombed by Japanese forces.

Tourism Australia recommended a number of locations where travellers can experience some of the atmosphere conjured up by the film, including Faraway Bay, a remote bushcamp in the Kimberley region.

Home Valley Station at the base of the Cockburn Ranges in Western Australia is a working cattle station that offers guests an outback experience and a range of accommodation facilities, including luxury lodges and safari-style tents.

On the other side of the country, in Sydney, holidaymakers can visit Strickland House, a 19th century villa that features as Darwin's Government House in the film Australia.
