BA agrees new inflight entertainment deal
18 November 2008
Thales, a provider of information systems for the aerospace industry, has announced an agreement with British Airways (BA) to provide a new range of inflight entertainment (IFE) options for the airline.
The multi-million pound deal will see a multimedia setup with larger, clearer LCD screens installed on BA's Airbus A380 aircraft and its Boeing 777s and 787 Dreamliners.
Passengers will be offered access to more than 100 movies, 300 programmes and 400 CDs, as well as radio shows and podcasts.
Other new features will include ports at each seat throughout the cabin to connect and charge electronic devices and in-seat laptop power points.
Jamie Cassidy, BA's general manager of product management, said: 'The new Thales IFE system will go way beyond the basics. It is an "everything on demand" system that lets passengers do what they want, when they want.'
Mark Barclay, managing director of Thales UK's aerospace business, added: 'Thales will deliver an inflight entertainment system that reinforces British Airways' brand and service in all classes. We are delighted about the selection and anticipate that, together, our two companies will keep raising the bar in this field.'
The system will be delivered for installation on BA's next-generation aircraft in 2010.
