Air France tests A380 in Paris
25 November 2008

Air France brought the Airbus A380 to Paris Charles de Gaulle over the weekend to carry out tests to ensure that the aircraft can be accommodated at the airport.

This occasion, on 22 November, represented the first time that the Paris airport had hosted the A380 superjumbo.

The plane was towed into the new H6 hangar at Paris Charles de Gaulle, which was specifically designed to accommodate the giant aircraft.

Covering a total area of 25,800 square metres, the hangar is large enough to hold an Airbus A380 and two medium-haul aircraft at the same time. It took 24 months to build and required 455,000 hours of work.

Once it was in the hangar, the A380 was subjected to tests of its maintenance equipment, upper deck, horizontal tail fin, body and other equipment, all of which proved satisfactory.

Air France is hoping to receive its first A380 for full commercial use before the end of 2009.

From its base at Paris Charles de Gaulle, the airline operates a network of flights to hundreds of destinations around the world.
