Another travel award for New Zealand

The 2008 Telegraph Travel Awards winners have been announced, with New Zealand voted the world's best holiday destination, followed by Australia and South Africa.
New Zealand has had a highly successful year at awards ceremonies, recently picking up two gongs at the Responsible Tourism Awards and also being named the top long-haul destination in the Guardian Travel Awards.
Commenting on the most recent win, Tourism New Zealand chief executive George Hickton said: 'We never take these awards for granted and the New Zealand tourism industry is always looking for ways to improve people's time in New Zealand to send them away with great stories to tell their friends and family.'
British travellers' favourite European country, according to the Telegraph Travel Awards, is Italy, followed by Greece and Portugal.
Long-haul destinations performed well in the 'best world city' section of the awards, with Cape Town, San Francisco and Sydney the top three, while York, Edinburgh and Bath were voted Britain's best cities.
Singapore Airlines was named the best scheduled airline, ahead of Virgin Atlantic and Emirates, while Air Berlin took the 'best low-cost airline' award.
In its survey of more than 25,000 readers to decide the award winners, the Telegraph also found that 92% of people do not think that the credit crunch will affect their holiday destination choices next year.
