Emirates brings A380 to London
01 December 2008
Emirates has announced that it is to begin using the Airbus A380 superjumbo to operate flights from Dubai to London Heathrow airport.
From today (1 December), flight EK001, which departs Dubai daily at 07:45 and arrives in London at 11:35, will use the giant aircraft.
Emirates is currently the A380's largest customer, with 58 of the planes on order. The A380 used on the Dubai to Heathrow route is the third of the superjumbos that the airline has ordered.
Offering 489 seats in three different classes on two levels, the A380 will provide a 40% increase in capacity over the Boeing 777 previously used by Emirates between Dubai and Heathrow.
Tim Clark, president of the airline, said: 'We are delighted to bring our customers state-of-the-art comforts which are unmatched anywhere else in the world.
'Despite today's challenging economic environment, they have responded by booking every seat on our inbound and outbound flights.'
Two A380s are already being used on Emirates flights between Dubai and New York. The airline will deploy the giant aircraft on services to Sydney and Auckland in February 2009.
