Wireless network installed at Helsinki airport
02 December 2008

People travelling to and from Helsinki-Vantaa airport can now make use of a wireless internet network at the hub.

The unrestricted web connection was installed by Finavia, Finland's state-owned provider of airport and aviation services, and is available in Helsinki-Vantaa's waiting areas and customer facilities.

People using laptops in the airport's wireless area will see the availability of the internet connection appear automatically on their screen.

The facility is expected to prove particularly useful for business travellers.

Juha-Pekka Pystynen, director of Helsinki-Vantaa airport, said: 'Many people want to deal with their business matters using their own laptops while waiting for their flight.

'Now it's easy, because now you don't need separate passwords in order to sign on.'

People who don't have laptops can pay a fee to use internet kiosks or access the web on one of the computers in the airport's eService bar.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is the home hub of Finnair and hosts flights provided by the airline to destinations including London, Madrid, Rome and Istanbul.
