More carriers launch Thailand relief flights
03 December 2008

A number of major airlines are now operating additional flights to and from Thailand to help stranded passengers in the country.

Air services in Bangkok have been severely disrupted over the past week by anti-government protests that have blockaded the city's Suvarnabhumi international airport.

While the Bangkok hub has today recommenced operations, there are still thousands of people stranded in Thailand.

Etihad Airways recently operated its sixth relief flight, which carried passengers from U-Tapao airport in Thailand to Abu Dhabi, and plans to resume services to Suvarnabhumi when the airport is fully up to speed.

Air Berlin will also offer extra flights from U-Tapao to Germany on 3, 4 and 5 December as normal flight operations are likely to continue to be affected despite the recent positive developments in Bangkok.

Swiss is another European airline that has arranged additional services, providing direct flights to Zurich from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.
