Sarah Jessica Parker flies into Liberia
14 March 2006
Swapping Sex in the City for politics in Africa, Sarah Jessica Parker is to become the latest celebrity to join the ranks of the Unicef ambassadors.
SJP will be flying into the war torn African country of Liberia in an effort to help the children's charity promote peace.
The glamorous actress and wife of Hollywood star Matthew Broderick said that she has been a life-long supporter of Unicef and that she had "been collecting money for them ever since I was a teeny, tiny child".
Situated in west Africa, Liberia is suffering from tensions after the recent electoral victory of Africa's first female head of state, Ellen Johnon-Sirleaf.
SJP will meet relief and aid workers and hopes to raise the profile of the country's problems.
She said: "I'm going to Liberia, where they've elected their first female president.
"It's a place that gets little or no attention, so we're going to try and bring some attention to it."
