Airports and hotels set for internet revolution
14 March 2006

Travellers will be able to stay in touch with their colleagues and loved ones all the more easily after Marriot Hotels announced that it is to install high-speed internet access in all its hotels.

Over 9,000 rooms in more than 60 hotels will benefit from the extended service.

Commenting on Marriot's deal with broadband provider iBAHN, Jurgen Giesbert, Marriott's executive vice president for the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Africa, said that the company had seen a significant demand for internet service in recent months.

"High-speed, secure connectivity is an essential service for today's travellers no matter where they are staying," said Mr Giesbert.

Passengers flying from or to BAA airports in the UK will also be able to keep up to speed as Stansted Airport became the first of six BAA airports to offer extended Wi-Fi coverage in a deal with network operator The Cloud.

Gatwick, Heathrow, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Southampton are all set to follow suit by the end of the month.

Passengers are able to purchase vouchers valid for all airports covered by The Cloud - allowing people to send and receive emails at all stages of their journey.
