Charles and Camilla take to the land of the pharaohs
22 March 2006
As Britain is facing chilly weather the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are in Egypt enjoying the many sights of the country, and no doubt the warm temperatures, currently around 30 degrees C, along with official duties.
Arriving in the country they were met by the Aga Khan to see a 74-acre park in central Cairo and work being carried out to restore 12th century battlements, mosques, a 13th century palace and an Ottoman House.
They then headed to the Cairo museum, home to 100,000 relics and antiquities from almost every period of ancient Egyptian history, to see the fantastic Tutankhamun exhibition.
Today the couple fed carrots to horses and donkeys at the Brooke Hospital for Animals in Cairo, a stop not on most travellers' itineraries.
Charles and Camilla will stay in Egypt until Friday, hopefully finding time to take in such great sights such as the pyramids of Giza, the sphinx and Luxor that take many visitors back through time.
The royal couple are currently on a two-week overseas tour that will include visits to Saudi Arabia and India.
