United and Shanghai agree to fly more
23 March 2006
Shanghai Airlines and United Airlines have signed an agreement to bring more flights into China.
The deal, which should come into force on 15 May, will see more airports opened up with flights from Shanghai to Chicago and San Francisco.
Travellers will also be able to fly from Pudong International Airport in Shanghai to Shenyang, Chengdu, Dalian and Qingdao.
The eastern coastal town of Qingdao is home to the Tsingtao Brewery - founded by German settlers and in August the annual Qingdao International Beer Festival.
Dalian's main attractions are its beaches and water sports.
Both airlines will allow people to build up and redeem frequent flyer miles and take advantage of airport lounges.
Zhou Chi, chairman of Shanghai Airlines, said: 'Shanghai Airlines was awarded the right to operate flights between China and the US at the end of 2005 as a result of China's liberalisation of the aviation market, specifically on the China to US routes.
'The code-share agreement between United Airlines and Shanghai Airlines will provide passengers travelling between China and the United States with more diversified flight options, convenient connections and improved service.'
