When it comes to holidays Brits are sticking with the traditional fortnight summer break, despite the greater choice on offer.

It has been revealed that 25 million Brits are planning a two-week summer holiday this year.

Although a third of people are planning to take two or more holidays this year, two weeks away in the summer sun remains the most popular type of vacation for 43 per cent of people.

For families August was the favourite month for a break, with four in ten heading away in that month last year.

Short breaks were more popular with single people, being almost twice as likely as those over 50 to take one.

Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office, which carry out the research, said: 'This year looks set to be a bumper year for travel with over 30 million of us planning to take a holiday 1.1 million more than 2005.

'Nowadays it's cheaper to travel than ever before; the rise of the internet as a sales channel and competitive pressures in the market have forced prices down, which is great news for UK holiday-lovers.'
