Cardiff International plans £100m expansion
30 March 2006
Cardiff International Airport has unveiled plans for a £100 million expansion.
As a part of a 24-year master plan the airport hopes to over take Bristol International Airport as the region's biggest hub with 8 million passengers using it by 2030.
Airport managing director Jon Horne claims that the expansion should not inconvenience locals as flights take off over the sea or agricultural land and noise affect very limited areas.
Mr Horne added: 'Unlike many other airports, we do not expect to need more land nor create significant environmental impact from our current premises.
'In addition, judicious use of public transport with intelligently developed road and rail access will also minimise the effects on our surroundings.'
Cardiff International has recently announced a number of new services.
From 10 April Air Southwest will begin twice-daily flights to Manchester and Newquay.
On 24 April Aer Aran will commence flights to Cork, in addition to its Brittany service, and Eastern Airlines will take over flights to Brussels, Aberdeen and Newcastle from Air Wales.
