4,000 eggs hidden in Switzerland
05 April 2006
The Swiss city of St Gallen celebrates Easter this year with a massive Easter egg hunt.
Four thousand eggs will be hidden in the in St Gallen's old town with a chocolate prize for every ten eggs found
There will also be 25 'golden' eggs concealed somewhere in the town's Collegiate Church District between pavements and doorsteps with special prizes of city tours for those with a keen enough eye to spot them.
The hunt starts at 08:00 with a shot fired in the market square and lasts until all the eggs are found or the hunters have had enough chocolate.
After the hunt the market square will host a party with music and a plenty of food, including free coffee, cake and boiled eggs.
St Gallen dates back to 612AD when it was founded by the wandering Irish monk Gallus, from whom the town takes its name.
The historic centre today consists of many narrow and winding roads around the baroque cathedral at the city's centre and it has been awarded World Cultural Heritage Status by UNESCO.
The eggs will also be flying as Easter in Switzerland sees many towns have the tradition of egg throwing.
