Air passengers prefer being online on board
06 April 2006

Air travellers prefer to fly with airlines that offer in-fight internet, according to a new survey.

The research by Connexion, a business unit of Boeing, found that 83 per cent of air travellers said that the availability of the internet would have an impact on their future travel plans.

Of travellers logging on at 30,000 feet 25 per cent used it to stay in touch with what was going on, especially after foreign holidays, and 22 per cent used the net to access emails.

Currently around 180 routes worldwide offer the internet to passengers - with airlines including Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines and Korean Air providing the service - but the rising importance of the net in people's daily lives means that it is bound to spread further.

Laurette Koellner, president of Connexion, said: 'Travellers who have used the service appreciate the flexibility it provides for staying connected to what matters most or being entertained, even at 35,000 feet.'
