Goths of the world unite in Leipzig
06 April 2006
Leipzig takes on a dark mood this summer for the 15th Wave Gotik Treffen festival.
From 2 to 5 June over 150 of the world's best goth, punk and industrial bands head to the German city along with thousands of fans to enjoy loud and dark music.
Bands already confirmed include Austria's Bloodsucking Zombies From Outer Space, Poland's Miquel And The Living Dead and God Module from the US.
Concerts take place across the city from cellar pubs to churches, but the festival also holds a market, puts on plays and shows some film classics, and although the music can sound angry there is friendly atmosphere.
Leipzig is increasingly becoming a major tourist destination and this summer its profile is set to rise, as the city's stadium will host games during the World Cup, which runs from 9 June to 9 July.
One of the highlights of the city are the narrow interconnected arcades that were built at the turn of the 20th century when trade in the city is booming, and which a few have now been fully restored.
