Prince Harry's girl causes airport controversy
18 April 2006
When Prince Harry's girlfriend arrived at London's Heathrow airport last week she caused a bit of a stir.
Not because of the fact she is an heiress, or the fact that she is the Zimbabwe-born girlfriend of the Prince, currently third in line to the throne.
It was because of the extraordinary lengths to which the police went to ensure she had a safe arrival at Heathrow.
Leaving her flight from South Africa, where she is studying at Cape Town University, 20-year-old Chelsy Davy was flanked by five airport police guards, not to mention a phalanx of photographers.
However, the police escort was claimed to be over the top by people who were at Heathrow airport, while MPs argued it was a waste of manpower.
Labour MP Lynne Jones told the Mirror: "This is over the top. We should know how much this operation cost."
It is understood Ms Davy was in the UK on a five-day trip to be with Prince Harry as he passed out of Sandhurst Royal Military Academy.
