Airport parking warning for Gatwick
18 April 2006
An increasing number of rogue car parking companies are parking airport clients' cars in the streets around Crawley, it has been claimed.
Holidaymakers who leave their vehicles in the hands of parking companies are often unaware that the firms are simply finding spaces in the streets of Crawley, around Gatwick airport, to leave the vehicles.
People have complained that vehicles have been left outside their homes for two weeks at a time, with the firms coming to pick them up in time to return to the unsuspecting holidaymakers.
However, Gatwick Parking Association (GPA), in conjunction with the British Airports Authority (BAA), is seeking to tackle the problem by insisting on strict enforcement of parking laws in the area.
BAA and GPA have met with Crawley Council's planning representatives to seek out ways of approaching the problem and dealing with it more effectively.
Chairman of the GPA, Stephen Moss, told icSurrey: "There's every intention from the local authorities to try to enforce against unlawful parking and we are talking about ways of introducing an improved parking scheme so the public has an idea of what's authorised."
