BA lowers European fares
20 April 2006

British Airways (BA) is taking on low cost airlines by cutting its fares to European destinations.

The airline is to offer short-haul one-way tickets from £29 and will cut one-way fares by up to 50 per cent to more than 65 destinations.

A further change will see all non-changeable economy tickets being scrapped so all air travellers will be able to change their flights.

BA commercial director Martin George, said: 'We operate in a very competitive market and are determined to be the first choice for air travellers, who want low prices, flexibility, and a superb flying experience.

'This is not a short-term gimmick, but a long term commitment.'

He added: 'Customers will now be able to easily compare prices for themselves between British Airways and the airlines offering lower standards of service and I can assure the public that it is our intent to offer the best value for money in the market.'

One of the biggest fare reductions will be for flights between London and Naples now 86 per cent cheaper.
