Zaragoza Airport to expand
24 April 2006
A Spanish airport close to the Pyrenees is to quadruple in size to help boost the region's bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics, it has announced.
Zaragoza Airport, which serves the Aragon town of Jaca, plans to enlarge its terminal size in order to increase the airport's capacity of one million passengers each year.
Improved car parking facilities and access to the A-23 motorway will contribute to the airport terminal's growth, which is set to expand to 16,000 square feet by January 31st 2008.
Improvements in travel infrastructure, including airport expansion, 'inevitably cause a domino effect in terms of investment, as visitors and business contacts invest in the surrounding areas,' Stuart Law of Assetz Property News told 999 Today last week.
With the area trying its hardest to compete for the 2014 Winter Olympics, the already attractive prospects for property investment in Spain's Huesca province will be heightened further by the new infrastructure investment.
Access to Jaca, a small town in the centre of the Pyreness mountain range and located in the Aragon Valley close to Zaragoza Airport, is likely to push forward its growth as a popular tourist destination.
With an Olympic youth festival taking place in Jaca next February as part of the town's efforts to secure the 2014 Winter Olympics, the area's profile is likely to continue rising positively for the next few years.
