A380 to make UK debut
27 April 2006
The world's largest commercial plane, the Airbus A380, is set to make its first flight into the UK.
The 555-seat airliner will land at Heathrow on 18 May as a part of its testing programme and will be parked at Heathrow Terminal 3 as checks are carried out to make sure the A380 is compatible with the airports facilities.
The first scheduled service using the A380 is expected before the end of the year with Singapore Airline's service to Heathrow.
Other airlines that have also ordered the aircraft for their fleets include Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
Currently only four of the planes have flown two which are involved in the intensive flight test programme and two undergoing cabin installation in Hamburg.
