Brits take 5.4m trips abroad

British travellers made 5.4m trips abroad in March.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show for the last 12 months UK residents made 66.5m journeys abroad, an increase of 2%.
The most common destination with 49.9m trips being made was Western Europe.
In total 4.7 million people made trips across the Atlantic to Canada or the US, while visits to other areas of the globe rose by 15% to 11.9m.
In March the ONS figures show that UK residents spent £2,470m abroad a rise on February of £100m.
Thirty million travellers from around the world came to the UK over the last 12 months, with 4.3m coming from North America, 19.3m from Western Europe and 6.5m form the rest of the world.
Between January and March foreign visitors spent £3,640m.
