Edinburgh Airport drama in line for awards
11 May 2006
A theatre group that used Edinburgh International Airport as its stage is up for five awards at the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland.
Audience members took on role of passengers, arriving at the airport by bus, checking in and waiting in the departure lounges, meanwhile the actors playing travellers and airport staff - played out the surreal drama.
The play Roam starred a multinational cast with actors with non-professional participants aging from five to 85, creating a new way to look at airports.
The Times review said: 'Every aspect of the airport experience is recreated or subverted with delightful sound and design touches ranging from passport programmes to witty Tannoy announcements and slogans on luggage trolleys.'
Roam was staged by the theatre company Grid Iron and The National Theatre of Scotland and is up for the best theatre production, best music and ensemble awards.
