Beach life in Paris
11 May 2006
France's greatest stadium will be turned into a beach resort for a week this summer.
The Stade de France closes its doors to rugby and football and brings in a few thousand tonnes of sand to create a beach from 15 to 21 July.
Besides lying back and enjoying the sun and sand, visitors can take part in a number of sporting activities including swimming and sailing - in a specially created pool - or beach football and volleyball.
La Plage au Stade de France competes for attention with the Paris Plage, which brings a beach to the centre of Paris beside the Seine.
This year the Paris Plage will be open from 20 July to 20 August and the organisers are hoping to build on the success of last years Brazilian-themed beach, which even included a swimming pool for sunbathers to cool off in.
Advice to anyone heading to either beach is to get there early to guarantee a free deckchair.
