Delta announces new flights
12 May 2006

US airline Delta has announced it is set to introduce new flights to a number of internal destinations from New York's JFK airport.

The country's third-largest carrier said it plans to provide 25 extra daily Delta Connection non-stop flights to 14 domestic destinations.

As part of the expansion, Portland in Maine and Manchester in New Hampshire will both now be connected, with four daily round-trip flights.

In addition, 12 other destinations, including Columbus, Ohio; Raleigh-Durham and Richmond, Virginia will see an increased number of services.

'Our ongoing expansion at the JFK hub significantly increases the convenience of choosing Delta for travel between the US and destinations around the world,' commented Bob Cortelyou, the airline's vice president of network planning.

The new flights will be introduced from the beginning of July, with all services airborne by October.

The firm, which filed for bankruptcy protection last September, yesterday announced a first quarter deficit of $2.1 billion.
