New Continental flights for Barcelona
17 May 2006

As part of a transatlantic service expansion Continental Airlines is to introduce non-stop daily flights from New York to Barcelona.

Previously the only Spanish city the American airline had flown to was Madrid, but according to Jim Summerford, Continental's vice president for Europe, Middle East & India, the timing is now right to add Barcelona to the airline's expanding international network.

'Having established a strong and enviable reputation for our superior transatlantic service, we have high expectations for this new route,' he said.

The new flights will carry 172 passengers and will leave New York's Newark Airport at 7:15 pm each day, arriving in Barcelona at 9:15 am the following day.

In the winter months when demand usually falls, Continental will reduce the Barcelona service to five flights per week, reverting to daily service again in the spring.

Continental Airlines, the world's sixth-largest carrier, now flies to 28 transatlantic destinations from the New York area, more than any other airline.
