Young travellers skip insurance

New research shows young travellers are increasingly not taking out travel insurance.
It is estimated that 1.5m people aged 18 to 24 will take a short break this year, but 22% will not bother with travel insurance compared with only 12% of 45-54 year-olds.
One of the main reasons given for opting not to take insurance given by 31% - was that they thought they did not need it for a short break as they would not be away for long enough.
Hugh Stacey, of the Post Office, which carried out the research, said: 'Short breaks appeal to younger jetsetters who have the freedom and cash to escape for a spontaneous weekend away. But it's worrying to see how many are overlooking what is a holiday essential.
'Whether you are going away for a couple of days or a fortnight's holiday, you are just as susceptible to theft, loss or accidents. Get adequate travel insurance before you fly and make your short break a safe one.'
Mr Stacey went on to explain that the potential costs of something going wrong while abroad far outweighed the price of insurance.
