Western Australia sees £400m tourism investment
30 May 2006

Western Australia is set for a massive boost in tourism with over £400m worth of investment in accommodation.

The 19% growth in investment could see 5,655 more rooms available in the state.

State tourism minister Sheila McHale said: 'As of the first quarter of 2006, $1billion (£406m) in accommodation projects are in the pipeline.

'There are $266m (£108m) worth of projects currently under construction across the state, which is a 28% increase on the same time a year ago.'

The 56 projects already under construction will provide 2,000 new rooms for visitors and include the four-star Exmouth Marina Ningaloo on Australia's Coral Coast region.

New hotels being built in Perth are worth £115m, with the Medina Executive Barrack Plaza bringing 100 bedrooms.

Western Australia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists heading Down Under with attractions including the clean sandy beaches, coral reefs and the outback.
