Manchester honoured for value for money
07 June 2006

Manchester Airport has won a major award for value for money.

The airport received the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Eagle Award at an awards ceremony in Paris this week in recognition of its work to reduce airline charges.

Giovanni Bisignani, IATA director general, said: 'It is a special pleasure to congratulate Manchester Airport on winning an Eagle Award in 2006-a good partner and a model for other airports to emulate.'

Manchester was also commended for its work to improve customer service in the airport, by setting targets to reduce security queuing times and improve punctuality and baggage handling.

Geoff Muirhead, Manchester Airport chief executive said after receiving the award: 'The IATA Eagle Award is one of the most prestigious in the international aviation industry and we are honoured to have received it for the second time.

'Independent recognition of this on a global stage by IATA is an important milestone in our continued development as the international gateway to the north of England.'
