67m trips abroad

Brits made 67m trips abroad in the 12 months to the end of April, official statistics show.

In April alone boosted by the timing of Easter there were 5.7m journeys abroad made with Brits spending £2.8 billion.

The most popular destination in the last 12 months accounting for 50.3m trips was Western Europe.

The biggest area of growth was to the rest of Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific and South America with the number of trips increasing by 15% as travellers become more adventurous with the destinations they choose.

Meanwhile, the number of journeys to the US, Canada and Mexico fell by 6% over the 12 months to April.

The number of travellers coming to Britain over the year to April rose by 7% to 30.7m with 4.3m from North America and 19.7m from Western Europe.
