French history comes alive
14 June 2006

Once a year, the French village of Flagnac takes visitors back in time.

For the last 25 years, the village has put on a massive outdoor play bringing the past alive with Hier, Un Village.

The aim of the spectacle acted and put on by volunteers - is to bring the village of yesteryear back to life.

The show starts with an old woman telling her grandchildren about what life was like a century ago. Slowly a whole village is illuminated within an amphitheatre as a story is told with music and dance.

The climax of the show sees the village and the night sky illuminated with a fireworks display.

This year Hier, Un Village runs from 27 July to 7 August

Flagnac is situated in the Aveyron region in the south of France. Aveyron is home to the Cevennes National Park and the world's tallest bridge, the Viaduc de Millau, which spans the Tarn Valley and, at 341m at its highest, is only 40m shorter than the Empire State Building.
