Deneuve heads Venice jury
16 June 2006
French actress Catherine Deneuve is to be the president of the international jury at this year's Venice International Film Festival.
The festival will run from 30 August to 9 September and should attract its usual array of stars.
The festival opens with the premiere of Kenneth Branagh's The Magic Flute, although the full programme is still to be settled.
Last year's festival saw a long list of stars attending and swapping the usual limousine for a boat or gondola, including George Clooney, Rachael Weisz, Ralph Fiennes, Renée Zellweger and Ang Lee, who won the top prize for Brokeback Mountain.
The festival - now in its 63rd edition - has become a major event in the film world and this year the impressive line-up of stars treading down the red carpet should be repeated.
Despite the influx of stars, Venetians deals with the celebrities with their usual nonchalance, so visitors to the city could find themselves getting closer to the stars than expected.
