Five-star plans for Channel Islands tourism
19 June 2006

Jersey and Guernsey hotels are on track to adopt the rating scheme used to grade hotels by stars in England, Scotland and Wales later this year.

At present, hotels on the islands grade their facilities between one and three sun symbols, with guest houses using the diamond classification system.

Self-catering properties and campsites have until now had no grading system, which could be due to change with the introduction of UK-wide standards to the Channel Islands.

Delegates voiced approval for a national scale of comfort grading at a meeting of tourism officials this month, saying that it would be an internationally recognised system for visitors to the UK.

The National Standards Group for tourism in all UK regions is preparing for the changes, with the aim of giving customers the best quality service when choosing British holiday accommodation.
