Top US chill out spots revealed
22 June 2006
A new poll has revealed Phoenix, Portland and Colorado Springs as the top places to chill in the US.
The 'Chill Index' by drinks firm Diageo took into account factors including the number of restaurants, concerts, organised sports and the cost of going out.
In the mega city category Phoenix edged out New York, Los Angeles and Dallas with its younger population, number of parks and sporting events.
The top five large cities to chill out in, headed by Portland, were from the western states of the US.
Portland beat off rivals San Francisco, Las Vegas and Denver because of its high number of coffee shops and a young population more willing to spend on a night out.
Of the small cities, the most relaxed atmosphere can be found in Colorado Springs, narrowly ahead of Jersey City, Omaha, Albuquerque, and Honolulu.
