Bilbao's big week

From 20 to 28 August, a festival comes to Bilbao with free concerts, fireworks and even a strong man competition.
Aste Nagusia Basque for Big Week is a major event on Bilbao's calendar with around 250 events taking place throughout the city.
With this year's line up still being finalised, visitors will have to look to 2005 for inspiration on what events to see.
Last year saw comedy, open-air dance, Iggy Pop, street processions with giant puppets, folk music, an open-air cinema, bull fighting and a fireworks competition.
The big influx of visitors and performers from around the world also gives the Spanish city an international feel.
Bilbao has grown hugely in international standing in recent years, with the opening of the iconic Guggenheim Museum, The Euskalduna Palace - a centre for avant-garde design and concert hall - and a new metro system all breathing new life into the city.
