Passengers bookings flights online up 40%

Last year saw 560m plane tickets sold online, according to new figures.
The number of people using the internet to book tickets rose by 40%. Furthermore, 28% of all the world's 2 billion airline passengers now book online.
Francesco Violante, chief executive of SITA, which carried out the research in Atlanta, Heathrow and Hong Kong, said: 'The on-line travel revolution has come a long way since SITA developed the first ever internet booking engine ten years ago.
'Enabling passengers to plan their own trips on the web is now fundamental to the air transport industry and on-line booking is becoming the norm.'
The survey found 66% of travellers who went online to book did so for the lower prices and 44% bought tickets on the internet to create their own schedule.
The research also showed that using the web to check in has not yet been fully accepted.
Only 7% had used the internet to check in ahead of travelling on the day of the survey and 13% had used kiosk check-in facilities.
