Passengers face new baggage limits
06 July 2006

New limits on the maximum size for carry-on luggage have come into force this week.

Regulations from the Department for Transport (DfT) state bags must have a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

However, no weight limit has been set.

The DfT claims the limits will "reduce security queuing times and improve safety on board aircraft" and will bring the UK into line with international standards.

Passengers that check-in online or at self-service kiosks are being particularly warned to take note of the new limits.

If passengers that check themselves in advance are found to have carry-on luggage that is too large, they will have to return to check-in and check the bag into the hold - causing delays form themselves and others.
