Iberia pilots call off strike
13 July 2006
Pilots for the Spanish airline Iberia have agreed to call off their strike.
The strike started on Monday and was due to continue until Saturday, but unions were able to forge a deal with the airline bosses.
During the strike around 240 flights were grounded causing delays for thousands of passengers and costing Iberia around £3.5m a day.
The pilots were striking to gain assurances that Iberia's plans to create a new low cost airline would not result in job cuts and for a new pay deal.
The unions were unable to move the airline over pay but received guarantees over jobs.
Customers who have missed flights are being offered refunds or a change of tickets.
A spokeswoman for the airline said: 'Iberia is glad that the strike has ended, and thanks its customers for their confidence and their understanding in these difficult circumstances.
'All Iberia employees are at their entire disposal to clear up any doubts they may have and help them in any way possible.'
