Brussels strike talks 'positive'
14 July 2006

It has been claimed that a potential strike at Brussels airport has been averted following a breakthrough in talks between the airport's bosses and union officials.

According to a posting on Luchtzak Aviation, a partial deal has been brokered between the two sides that has been enough to avert strike action today, Friday 14 July.

The unions and officials at Brussels National Airport have been locked in talks over recent days in a dispute over the payment for overtime.

Talks have been progressing in a positive manner for the last few days and will continue in the coming days in a bid to resolve the matter once and for all.

Concerns over service times and rosters have been at the heart of the dispute and although the current industrial action appears to have been averted, more work needs to be done between the negotiating parties if a deal is to be brokered.

Earlier this week, airport spokesman Paul De Backer told Expatica that the talks had been progressing in a "positive atmosphere".
