Edinburgh set for £300m improvements
17 July 2006
Edinburgh Airport is to receive £300m worth of investment.
The plan from BAA Scotland is for the airport to cater for 26m passengers by 2030 with a major expansion of international destinations on offer.
The announcement of the airport master plan comes after a year of talks with local and national government, local residents and the business community.
Airport managing director Richard Jeffrey said: 'We have produced a master plan which we believe reflects the ambitions of the city of Edinburgh, while addressing the concerns of our local communities.
"Edinburgh and its airport are now major players on the world stage, attracting millions of business and leisure visitors every year. This master plan strengthens the foundations of this world-class airport, preparing it to meet the challenge of serving our world-class city."
Philip Riddle, VisitScotland chief executive, added: 'Scotland has seen an encouraging growth in international visitors over the last five years, but we need to remain competitive to ensure that growth continues.'
