EU to demand clear ticket prices
17 July 2006
The European Commission is to push for clear pricing on airline tickets.
The move, pushed forward by Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot, aims to make it easier for travellers to compare the prices of tickets between airlines, reports the Financial Times.
Some low cost airlines have been criticised recently for making it harder for consumers to know how much they are going to pay with taxes, passenger fees and booking fees added to the original ticket price late in the booking process.
The guidelines to be set by the European Commission will also hit advertisements as well as booking so posters offering flights for a pound or even less may be far less common.
The new rules will cover all airlines across the European Union, so travellers will be able to check airlines both from Britain and where they are travelling to with greater confidence.
