Exeter strike off
20 July 2006
A strike planed to hit Exeter International airport has been called off.
Negotiations between unions representing fire fighters and the airport have been described as progressing well and a strike originally called for today (20 July) is off.
Both unions and the airport now claim to be confident about forging a deal.
Originally a series of five-hour strikes were planned that would have stopped flights from Exeter during July and August.
The fire fighters were calling for a greater pay rise to reflect the greater levels of work undertaken with the growth of the airport.
The decision to call off the strike has been welcomed by airlines using Exeter International.
A spokesman for Flybe said: 'Flybe is delighted that all strike action has been cancelled and passengers will be able to travel in and out of Exeter this summer without inconvenience.'
