Amsterdam for free

This September Amsterdam is opening many of its major attractions for free.

On 9 and 10 September, 35 monuments in the Dutch capital will be open for free including the Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt's House and the Van Gogh Museum.

Across the Netherlands, thousands of museums and sites of national importance are being opened for the National Heritage Weekend.

As well as opening their doors to visitors, many of the buildings will also put on special activities, such as concerts and guided tours.

Monuments taking part in the free weekend will be open from 10am to 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday and they will fly the a flag with the National Heritage Weekend logo a yellow flag with a blue key - to show visitors their doors are open for free.

The weekend is designed for both those from the Netherlands and visitors to learn more about what the country's heritage has on offer.
