27 July 2006
Ottawa is launching a passport for the city's museums.
The passport costing around £14 per person or £35 for a family provides entrance to ten museums, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Canada Science and Technology Museum and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.
The collection at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography includes 160,000 photos from Canada's best art and documentary photographers. The museum itself is located in a former railway tunnel.
Exhibitions at the Canada Science and Technology Museum cover space, modern communications technology and even the science of canoes.
Other museums involved in the passport scheme include the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canadian War Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature and the Canada Aviation Museum.
The passport also offers a 20% discount on events at the National Arts Centre which cover dance, drama and variety.
Events at the centre this autumn include the Barber of Seville, Swan Lake by the Kirov Ballet and Romeo and Juliet.
