Stars return to Venice
28 July 2006
Sir Michael Caine, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sharon Stone will be among the many Hollywood heavyweights heading to Venice this year.
The big line-up of stars is taking place as all 21 films in competition will have their world premieres.
While Cannes will always be where the deals are done, Venice in recent years has established itself as the festival where the stars show off their artistic credentials.
The festival runs from 30 August to 9 September and opens with Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia, starring Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson who are both expected to head to the festival.
Other stars expected to step off the boats that ferry the stars to the red carpets include Charlotte Gainsbourg, Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody and Stephen Fry.
Passes for the festival screenings are difficult to come by but are available to the public and cost from £750 to £100.
In total, 38 films will be shown during the festival.
