No shortage of tour guides in Dubai
28 July 2006

More than 114 people from 38 nationalities were trained to become professional tour guides in Dubai during the first half of 2006, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

Demonstrating Dubai's devotion to its booming hospitality industry, the DTCM conducted six Dubai Tour Guide Award (DTGA) courses to train participants to become successful tour guides.

The DTCM launched the DTGA six years ago with the aim of providing an outstanding experience to Dubai's visitors and to improve the quality of customer service in Dubai.

The participants of the course came from countries as diverse as Germany, China, the Philippines, India, Iran, Finland, Estonia, Lebanon, Egypt, Japan, and Austria.

The participants were given theoretical as well as practical knowledge regarding different aspects of Dubai, including general tourism, economic progress, infrastructure development projects and tourist attractions. First Aid Training also formed an important part of the course.

Mr Ibrahim Yaqoot, DTCM Manager Human Resources said: 'The participants of the course gained invaluable knowledge of Dubai so that they can create a better awareness of our history, culture and traditions. They have also learnt about the boom in real estate projects that are currently under progress.'

Participants were taken on a tour of the historical and other tourist attractions including the Gold Souk, Dubai Museum, Al Ahmadiya School and Al Shindagha.
